500 g (8) sausages
½ cup (125 ml) light brown sugar
2 Tbsp (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce
½ cup (125 ml) tomato sauce
2 Tbsp (30 ml) brown vinegar
1 tsp (5 ml) instant coffee powder
3 large onions, peeled and sliced
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

  1. Arrange the sausages in a large, ovenproof dish.  Mix the remaining ingredients in a heavy-based saucepan, bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.  Pour the mixture over the sausages and bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 40 minutes.  Serve with mashed potato.
